What are the reasons people might give for living on the streets? What challenges do they have to face? How can a person escape the streets?
STREET HOPE is a new documentary that takes viewers into the lives of the homeless. The film looks at circumstances from the perspective of the street and takes an objective view as it interviews people caught in extreme poverty.
The film recognizes homelessness is often the result of a long chain of events that is neither planned nor expected. It is more of a slow, sometimes fast decent into desperation.
Homelessness and poverty are inextricably linked. People who are poor are frequently unable to pay for necessities such as housing, food, childcare, health care, and education. Being poor can mean a person is one illness, one accident, or one paycheck away from living on the streets (Causes of Homelessness, www.homelesshub.ca).
Written and narrated by Richard Carrigan this documentary takes a serious look at the lives and dreams of people caught in the cycle of extreme poverty, or homelessness. Rich in authentic language, the documentary features interviews with people struggling to escape the streets of poverty.
